This plant is used in Hawaiian medicine and to adorn
one's body with the leaves around wrists, ankles and
head to participate in ceremonies and rituals. The
Hawaiian name is "La wai" fern. It has a musky sweet
smell and it surrounds my clinic and house. It is
considered a "sacred plant". The Polynesian cultures
used the rhizomes and the fronds to treat inflammation.
Locally, after being mashed, the plant is applied to
bruises and broken bones As well as abscesses...makes a
great poultice. - Ihor
